A Vietnam veteran bludgeoned an armed home intruder with a shotgun on Monday immediately after the suspect compelled his way inside the South Carolina home and attacked his wife with a huge knife, according to a report.
The suspect, determined as Harold Runnels, later died from his accidents.
“I begun hitting him in the head with the barrel and I know I will have to have hit him at minimum ten periods proper in the confront, just as really hard as I could strike him,” Herbert Parrish, 82, explained, in accordance to FOX 57 of Columbia, S.C.
Runnels knocked on their again door at about 2 p.m. to ask Parrish’s wife if she had noticed his white Chihuahua. At that point, he attacked her with the knife, according to the report.
Parrish said that he thought the suspect was likely to get rid of them, so he made the decision to “do a little something fast and get the edge on him.”

The veteran said he grabbed a shotgun that was mounted on his wall and bludgeoned Runnels until he was unconscious.

Runnels died at the Augusta College Health care Center Monday evening from injuries sustained throughout the residence invasion, a coroner informed FOX 57. Herbert and his wife were also wounded but are predicted to get well.
“I felt, we’re gone. He’s going to destroy us and just take what he can acquire,” Parrish said.
