Peaceful protests convert ‘disruptive’ in Summit neighborhood

The most recent activities follow the arrest and charging of a Fort Jackson soldier captured on movie in a hostile exchange with a youthful man that went viral on social media.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Peaceful protests in the Summit neighborhood have turned “disruptive, according to Richland County deputies, who say they have extracted a loved ones from their residence.

The latest situations adhere to the arrest and charging of a Fort Jackson soldier captured on video clip in a hostile trade with a younger male that went viral on social media.

Deputies say they were being referred to as to the soldier’s household in the Summit about 8:20 p.m. after mysterious protesters vandalized the dwelling. Objects had been thrown at the household and 1 went by an upstairs window, and a mild fixture connected to the household was also damaged, in accordance to deputies.  

The relatives was extracted from the dwelling by deputies and transported to a different spot.

Due to the activity, deputies say they have shut entry to Barony Position and surrounding streets except to people, and they are inquiring the community to continue to be absent from the location.

The Fort Jackson soldier, Johnathan Eugene Pentland, faces a misdemeanor demand of 3rd degree assault and battery 3rd degree subsequent the incident captured on video clip. That demand carries a most sentence of 30 times in jail and a $500 fantastic. 

On Wednesday, a team of about two dozen protestors showed up in the community wherever the incident occurred, chanting and holding signs calling for justice and accountability.
