Totally free home family vacation checks for Poway and 4S Ranch residents resume today (Thursday).
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s Senior Volunteer Patrol will perform the checks, stated Eric Kant, the Poway station’s criminal offense prevention expert. They will keep an eye on households for damaged windows, as well as open doorways or garages. The volunteers will also hold an eye out for suspicious activity all around households though the occupants are away.
Volunteers will also disguise deals, mail and newspapers shipped though the owners are on holiday if they forgot to suspend company, Kant reported. If the volunteers recognize a challenge, they will call for a deputy’s help.
On returning house, the property owners will acquire a welcome home letter, listing the dates their home was checked and observations produced through the visits, Kant explained.

The volunteers stopped patrolling the communities at the start of the remain-at-residence purchase in mid-March 2020, Kant said. Holiday checks also stopped with the senior volunteer patrol unavailable.
