Law enforcement in Irving, Texas, have determined the guy who shot and killed himself exterior of GOP Rep. Beth Van Duyne’s residence as previous marketing campaign staffer Chris Dillard, according to a report Thursday.
Dillard, 55, served as Van Duyne’s communications director from November 2019 to April 2020 and was a notable nearby GOP activist. The Irving Law enforcement Section confirmed his id on Thursday, the Dallas Early morning News noted.
Van Duyne was at her household in Irving on Wednesday afternoon when she read a gunshot and saw a guy lying in the front garden. The lawmaker named police and officers identified the man, later on identified as Dillard. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“She is shocked and saddened that an individual would take their individual lifestyle,” a representative for Van Duyne explained in a statement next the incident.
Police were being expected to provide additional particulars about their investigation at a press meeting Thursday afternoon.

Van Duyne won her seat in Texas’ 24th Congressional District final November, defeating Democrat Candace Valenzuela. Prior to her stint in Congress, the Republican lawmaker served in the U.S. Office of Housing and City Enhancement below previous President Donald Trump and as mayor of Irving from 2011 to 2017.
