How to Get a Maypole in Valheim

The Maypole is a rare structure in Valheim that players can either find in abandoned villages in the Meadows or cheat and craft themselves.

Most of the furniture, decorations, and crafting items a player needs to survive and be comfortable in the world of Valheim need to be crafted, but there are a few decorations players can only get by finding them at random in the world or via cheats. One of these items is a Maypole, a decorative item used to celebrate May Day and the summer solstice in Norse cultures. In Valheim, Maypoles can be used as decorative objects at a player’s base or in their home to increase their Comfort level. Though Maypoles are rare, players will sometimes find them in the middle of abandoned villages, particularly in the Meadows biome.

While they cannot be crafted legitimately, players who don’t mind using cheat codes and console commands can add one to their base that way. Like other objects in the game, Maypoles found in the world can’t be moved, and players will need to build within the abandoned villages around them to take advantage of their benefits. Here’s how to get a Maypole in Valheim.

How to Build a Maypole in Creative Mode in Valheim

To cheat in Valheim, players will need to use F5 to pull up the console and will need to enter the code imacheater to begin inputting cheat codes and console commands. There are many things players can do with cheats enabled, both in single-player games and multiplayer servers, including starting or ending random events and entering God Mode.

Cheating always comes with some level of risk, but there is even greater risk while Valheim is still in Early Access. Players will need to make sure to back up their characters, worlds, and game files in case of any issues that damage saved games.

To enter creative mode and build a Maypole, players will need to enter the code debugmode. They should see confirmation in the console that reads “Debugmode True” if this was input properly.

Next, players will need an upgraded Workbench nearby. Since it is most likely players will want their Maypole near their home base, this should not be a problem. Players will simply need to equip their hammer at home and use the Right Mouse Button to open the crafting menu. They will need to navigate to the Furniture tab.

Near the bottom of the grid full of items, they should see the Maypole as an option. If it is greyed out, players will need to finish gathering the resources to craft it. It requires 10 Wood, 4 Dandelion, and 4 Thistle to build.

Players can also seek out abandoned villages in the Meadows to find Maypoles, though there are some disadvantages to this. For one, it is rare to find one of these items. For another, players will need to build around the Maypole they find as, like other items in the game, they cannot be moved once placed. Players can use the abandoned villages to their advantage and continue building a base from there, but there is also always a chance enemies, particularly Surtlings, will destroy the decoration. To get a replacement, players will either need to build a new base by another Maypole, or replace it using the debugmode cheat anyway.

The Maypole decoration has practical purpose, adding +1 Comfort to the player’s home, which increases the length of a Rested buff. The Rested buff increases a player character’s rate of Health and Stamina regeneration during the day. At a Comfort level of 0, this lasts for 7 minutes. Each level of Comfort adds another minute to that time, all the way up to level 17 Comfort.
