‘Be Kind:’ Church group can make it a happy Easter for South Jersey nursing home

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — In this week’s “Be Type,” we capture up on a church group’s mission to make it a pleased Easter for seniors at a South Jersey nursing property.

Vicky Olson arranged past week’s Hope Church supply to reward people of the Manor Care in Voorhees.

She’s been gathering donated items for every single vacation, from donors as considerably absent as California and the United Kingdom!

Olson and church volunteers put together 95 baskets with hand soaps, toiletries, wash cloths, an Easter cup, Easter eggs loaded with candy, a devotional reserve and a specially knitted prayer pocket blanket.

They also furnished craft projects for the seniors to finish and Easter decorations so they could celebrate together in the nursing home.

The volunteers also despatched 120 gift luggage to the staff at Manor Treatment.

Olson claimed she shed her grandmother in February from accidents because of to a drop and is familiar with how tricky the pandemic’s limitations have been on households all more than the environment.

“My grandmother was 94-yrs-old, dwelling at property by yourself throughout COVID. Our family stayed absent in hopes of retaining her harmless. We despatched playing cards, letters, frequented via a window a few of times, but it highlighted to me just how alone some of our seniors are, specifically those people who never have relatives,” Olson stated.

For Christmas, Olson and the Hope Church volunteers donated 101 stuffed stockings for the seniors. Then they moved on to Valentine Smiles exactly where they shipped 95 Valentine luggage with incredibly hot chocolate, marshmallow toppers, candy, teddy bears and a lot more.

Up coming up is Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and a “summer enjoyable” basket.

Olson designs to expand the outreach to a second senior middle in the place.
