Ahead of Michael Kim of MK Architecture and David Cohen of Hampden Structure + Development reworked this 1964 addition to their client’s 1938 Colonial in Weston, there was a laundry space in a corner, a low ceiling, and limited access to the lawn. Very little about the space felt suitable. Immediately after taking the place down to the studs and simplifying the shell, the pair produced a tranquil sitting down space with an inconspicuous backdrop of developed-in bookshelves and a focal point-worthy hearth. “Now the home appears like it’s meant to, like it is constantly been this way,” Kim claims. “That was the point, that was our assignment.”
